This artwork is one of twelve stations of the ARTWALK Brotfabrik.
Here, times overlap. Melodies of an "Aryanized" composer (Alexander von Zemlinsky) encounter a contemporary sound collage. Who will remember when the eyewitnesses are gone? Can performing past music today and the moment of listening bear witness? Proximity and distance influence the listening experience and determine the overlap.
Multimedia reappraisal of the past
Set out on a search for traces through the more than 130-year-old walls of the Brotfabrik with wireless headphones. The transdisciplinary production team brings the stories of the place to life for the audience through artistic stations featuring photography, literature, installation art, music, video, and performance. Between aerial silk performances, cello sounds, and sound collages, the audio walk primarily raises questions about a dark historical chapter: What atrocities took place at the Brotfabrik during the Nazi era, and what happened during the Aryanization of the bakery operation? Today, the site of the Brotfabrik in Vienna-Favoriten appears as if a Jewish history had never existed. This void is what this multimedia production seeks to fill. In search of answers, visitors dive into two gripping life stories closely connected to the Ankerbrotfabrik and the National Socialist regime.
