With our first exhibition [ THESYSTEM ] - Borderless we developed the framework for location based augmented reality sculptures, resulting in placing 12 artifacts into public space: For several weeks, these works of art were freely positioned worldwide, afterwards they were manifested virtually at fixed, concept-related locations, only being visitable in a specific radius of it and thus are added permanently to the Viennese cityscape.

  • Enabled by the artistic concept of Litto and the poetic coding of Jascha Ehrenreich, putting down the founding stones for our Artificial Museum engine, we were working together with local artists to fill deserted locations around Yppenplatz with AR artifacts. The artifacts are created as digitalization of analogue works of art, performances and spatial installations. The outcome was quite diverse and ranged from light sculptures to soap bubble constructs.

  • The project was divided into two phases in which we worked with the artists to develop augmented reality concepts for their analogue artworks:

In phase 1, 20 artists representing five collectives (Sandkasten Syndikat, Villa Schapira, Zirkus Mops, Setzkasten, Dachsbau) had one week to use and freely design vacant premises on Yppenplatz like a shop window. Artistic positions in the fields of painting, multimedia installation, sculpture and performance were shown. These were documented, digitally stored and converted into AR artifacts in phase 2, which can be experienced by anyone via smartphone or computer.

Art and culture must be as accessible as possible, and not only art itself, but also art institutions such as museums must regularly question themselves.

  • The exhibition also marks the establishment and opening of the Artificial Museum as well as the SystemKollektiv as an association of artists filling the Artificial Museum with art.

With the use of augmented reality technology we want to transform public space into a museum that is independent of time and space. By mixing physical, virtual and imaginary worlds, a new experience of art becomes possible and a new age of culture in the fourth dimension begins. The transformation from analogue to digital art as well as the added value of this virtual metamorphosis were our main focus.
