Stadtpark Atzgersdorf, 1230 Vienna

Lichtgebilde #2312

  • Olaf Osten

"A healthy democracy needs an honest search for the possibilities of participation and genuine arguments, real knowledge, and true curiosity…" (Olaf Osten) When are people equal and free? As soon as they are equal before the law? As soon as no one is asked about their "origin" anymore? What is a healthy dispute? How much influence do we have as individuals on the quality of our coexistence? Do we listen to each other attentively enough? These and other questions could arise from Olaf Osten’s light graphic on the topic of democracy. It shows a fictional encounter inspired by Vienna’s Naschmarkt between very different people, where one wonders whether they communicate with each other or merely alongside each other, with themselves, or not at all.
