Gaußplatz 11 is the location of Aktionsradius Wien, a vibrant place with a decidedly ambivalent history marked by repression and expropriation during World War II. Gaußplatz is named after the mathematician, natural scientist, and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss, whose groundbreaking research on the Earth's gravitational pull led to the creation of the unit of measurement for magnetic flux density.
Fun fact: The roundabout at Gaußplatz was once dreaded by learner drivers, as it was for a long time the only roundabout where the right-of-way rule applied, meaning vehicles already in the roundabout had to yield to those entering it.
